After the sentencing of the police officer who murdered Bothem Jean, Black folks were reminded yet again what justice looks like for us. This self care session is an intentional curated space for Black folks to digest and process how do we take care of ourselves while navigating anti-Blackness.

Black Influencers Meet Up at Undesign the Redline

Young Black & Influential Omaha is excited to host another Black Influencers Meet up during the Undesign the Redline exhibit. There will be food, networking and create conversation about a dope exhibit.

The Union is extremely proud to host Undesign the Redline, an interactive exhibit, workshop series, and curriculum exploring the foundations of structural racism and the lingering effects of Redlining.

Black Influencers Board Training Program

Young Black & Influential Omaha is committed to developing and supporting Black Influencers and their leadership at all levels and types of roles.

We are excited to announce a formalized Board Training Program for Black Influencers in Omaha. The half day workshop will take you through a custom Board Masters program developed in partnership with Nonprofit Association of the Midlands. Topics include:

Board Governance

Strategic Planning

Power Dynamics

What's My Role as a Board Member

Boarding While Black and more!

At this year's YBI Awards, Keynote Speaker Rev. Dr. Starsky Wilson challenged us to Give Black. On August 28, we have the opportunity to do just that. Join us in a national #GivingBlackDay to support the work of YBI.

Why August 28? On August 28th the following events occurred:

14-year-old Emmett Till was brutally murdered by three white men, which, became a “flashpoint in the civil rights movement.”

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his iconic “I Have A Dream” speech in Washington, D.C.

Hurricane Katrina made landfall in Louisiana. The storm, which devastated New Orleans, inordinately impacted many of the city’s Black residents.

Then-Senator Barack Obama accepted the Democratic nomination for president, becoming the first black man to ever win the nomination and bid for the presidency.
